Counseling and Transfer Services

ARC Counseling provides students with personal and academic counseling to help students achieve their academic and career goals. Counselors are available to help make sure students start off on the right track by developing an education plan of the courses needed to achieve their goal of an Associate's degree, transfer to a four-year institution, or completion of a certificate; even if you’re unsure of your educational goal. Our counseling team is here to help you succeed! If you are new to ARC or currently attending, we encourage you to see a counselor at least once a semester but you are welcome to see one as often as you like. Counselors can assist with the following needs:

  • Help determining your academic, career or personal goals
  • Educational planning
  • Evaluation of courses taken at another college
  • Overcoming barriers in achieving your goals
  • Petitioning for graduation
  • When having difficulty in your courses or if you have been placed on academic probation/dismissal

Enjoy the convenience of web-based counseling (Internet and Web cam required)

ARC now offers online counseling appointments. You can enjoy the convenience of web-based counseling from your home, office, or actually anywhere that you have an internet connection and a webcam.

Online Counseling is ideal for students who are not on campus regularly or are distance education students or who cannot conveniently get to campus for in-person counseling appointments.

Online Counseling is NOT ideal for students who:

  • Are new, first-time college students
  • Are not familiar with the basics of how to use a computer
  • Lack access to a computer that has a working webcam, microphone and speedy internet connection
  • Need in-depth/specialized counseling (disability, EOPS, athletics)

  • On academic or financial aid dismissal

Before your appointment, make sure to check your settings to make sure your webcam and microphone are working properly.
A couple of minutes before your appointment time, log into your Gmail and wait to be "invited to hangout".

Send to: American River College, Admissions and Records, 4700 College Oak Drive, Sacramento, CA 95841. If you may unable to do this, you can email unofficial transcripts to the counselor prior to the appointment, but the Counseling Center does not keep unofficial transcripts on file. Unofficial copies are only used for the purposes of the appointment for that time only and will not be available for future appointments. Remember to return to the steps above and finish steps #3-5 after making your appointment!

If you do not have access to/familiarity with a webcam and microphone, but meet other criteria listed above, please contact the counseling department at (916) 484-8572 to discuss making a telephone counseling appointment.

  • Have all of your outside* transcripts sent to ARC Admissions and Records at least two weeks in advance of the appointment to allow time to process and scan into our system.
  • E-mail from your personal gmail account so she knows who to invite to the Google Hangout Session at the time of your appointment.
(Your ARC gmail account will not work with Google Hangout.)
