What is Political Science?

Politics is a world within which you are already deeply immersed, whether you recognize it or not. Government impacts you all day every day - from the water you drink, to the education you receive, to whether you feel safe where you live. Studying political science helps you understand government's role in your life and how you can influence government at the local, national, and international levels.

Political scientists generate and analyze information following rigorous academic standards to reduce bias - very different from what you might think of when you hear the world "politics." Learning methods of political science helps you hone your own political views, identifying your core beliefs and knowing how to separate fact from fiction when it comes to political information.

Whether you choose to major in political science or just take one course to become better-informed, we welcome you within our discipline! Explore the paths in political science to figure out which is best for you.
