What is Articulation?

Course articulation is the process by which one college matches its courses to courses at another college. Students use course articulation to make sure that courses they take at one college will not have to be repeated when they transfer to another college.

If you plan to transfer to a four-year college or university, then you will probably take articulated courses for general education and major preparation.

Articulation Agreements

Many colleges have articulation agreements (also called transfer course agreements), which define which courses they consider comparable. We have articulation agreements with University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and some accredited private and out-of-state colleges.

CSU and UC Articulation Agreements

You can find articulation agreements between American River College and both California State University and University of California at assist.org.

Articulation Agreements with Private or Out-of-State Colleges

Articulation is the development and maintenance of clear transfer and graduation paths for American River College students. The Articulation Office is responsible for the development of formal course-to-course agreements between ARC and four-year colleges and universities. The articulation officer is also responsible for the annual development, maintenance, and publication of: ARC's Graduation and General Education Requirements; the California State University Breadth (CSU-GE) pattern; the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Certification (IGETC) pattern. This office also facilitates ARC's compliance with state mandates such as C-ID and the STAR Act (SB1440) and facilitates maintenance of ARC articulation with area High Schools and Regional Occupational Programs (ROPs).

For those interested in the development of high school/ROP articulation agreements, or with questions about credit earned based on a high school/ROP agreement, please contact Nimo Ali in Workforce Development at (916) 484-8824.
