Students can schedule in-person appointments online up to one week in advance. Appointments are located in the Counseling Center on campus at American River College. Select your student status using the following options to schedule your in-person counseling appointment. Students must have completed an ARC Application 24 hours before attempting to schedule an appointment online. New appointments are added early every day.

Update: We are experiencing very high demand for online scheduling. Because appointments fill quickly each day, we advise students to check the system early each day for new appointments. If you need to see a counselor immediately, then please call or visit the Counseling Center.

Current high school students who want to take college courses need to follow the advanced education admission process.

What Type of Student Are You?

I am a...

New, First-Time Student

You are a new, first-time student if you have never attended college before.

Please complete the following steps before scheduling your counseling session.

  1. Apply to American River College. After you apply, you will receive a Los Rios email that includes your student ID number, which you will need in order to schedule a counseling appointment or group session.
  2. Complete Orientation. New student orientation is offered online. A link to the Online Orientation is provided in the Los Rios email you receive after submitting your application. You may complete the online orientation once you receive the Los Rios email with your student ID number. Assistance with this step is available on the ARC main campus in the Center for Leadership & Development, located in the Student Center.
  3. Complete Self-Placement (effective March 2019). New students who completed high school more than 10 years ago are required to complete the guided self-placement for English and mathematics (as well as a placement test for English as a Second Language [ESL], if applicable). This will help place you in classes that match your skill level. Contact the Assessment Center to get the link to guided self-placement.

After you have completed these steps, you are ready to attend one of our Get Connected Sessions. These sessions are designed for new-to-college students only. If you have attended college previously, then please make a Transfer Student appointment.

Students with ESL placements should call or visit Counseling at (916) 484-8572 to schedule an appointment.

Note: All full-time counselors attend staff meetings every Tuesday during fall and spring terms from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
