Internet and Wifi Resources

Free and Low-Cost Internet Plans

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) has compiled a list of current offers from ISPs that will help low-income households to acquire service at low or no cost. Most have eligibility limitations linked to income or program enrollment. The list also includes established, nationally available low-cost plans offered by nonprofit organizations. All offers are less than $20/month total cost (with no installation fees).

Other options:

AT&T is offering unlimited internet data and internet access for limited income households at $10 a month through the "Access from AT&T" program.

California Community Colleges students are eligible for the California Connects Mobile Internet service. This new mobile hotspot service, powered by Sprint, offers nationwide 4G LTE connectivity and allows users to connect up to 10 WiFi enabled devices for up to 10 hours on a single charge, no contract required, for only $19.99 a month.

Free Public Wifi

Students can access free public wifi or hotspots in various public places in and around Sacramento. Use the following resources to learn more:

CARES Act Direct Support for Students

As many people are aware, the federal stimulus package – the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act – includes one-time support for higher education institutions to help address the immediate and urgent impacts on our students and colleges.

Check your Message Center in eServices for information about important steps you can take to increase your chances to be eligible for these funds, including filling out a FAFSA if you haven’t already. Unfortunately, there is not enough money from the federal government for all of our students, so we will be focusing on making sure our neediest students who meet federal requirements for these funds are supported first.

These grants will range between $100 and $400, based on your financial need and the number of units you were enrolled in this Spring. We anticipate the first payments to students will be made in early May. We know that many students’ financial needs will extend beyond the current semester, so additional resources will also be distributed to qualifying students in the Fall.

We are committed to supporting students who have acute financial needs, including finalizing similar direct payments for undocumented students who are not eligible for CARES Act funding. We will have more information about eligibility and the process for securing these funds soon.

You may also be eligible for other federal funds from the CARES Act as well, as part of its Assistance for American Workers and Families program. View the full Consumer Financial Protection Bureau guide to COVID-19 economic stimulus relief funds and steps you can take to access funds if you haven’t already.
