Dusty Baker Center
The Dusty Baker Center is committed to providing student athletes with services that support their academic and intercollegiate sport goals while enrolled at American River College. The Center, consistent with the college’s mission, is dedicated to a supportive, inclusive environment that inspires critical thinking, learning and achievement, as well as responsible participation in intercollegiate sports.
In support of its mission the Dusty Baker Center coordinates the following holistic services for its student athletes:
- Athletic counseling
- Eligibility support
- Academic Game Plan (tutoring, study skills, time management skills, peer mentoring)
The Center was named in honor of Dusty Baker, who started his glorious baseball career here at American River College. Dusty later came back and provided the funding to build this resource center for student athletes. The center was dedicated to Dusty in 2011.

As a student-athlete, your responsibilities are as follows:
- Understand your ARC eligibility requirements
- Develop a Student-Athlete Education Plan
- Follow your education plan and update it every semester
- Check in with an Athletic Counselor if anything changes
Comprehensive Educational Plan, Requirements Deadlines
All Student-Athletes must have a Comprehensive Educational Plan on file.
Deadlines are usually as follows. For specific dates for each semester, visit our office.
- Fall Sports: Mid-October
- Spring Sports: The beginning of March
Progress Reports
- Fall: Distributed starting mid-September and are due the beginning of October.
- Spring: Distributed starting mid-February and due beginning of March
In Season Requirements
- Must be enrolled in 12 units for the duration of the semester
- Of the 12 units, 9 must be in academic coursework
- Must be enrolled in the ARC Sport class to participate in the ARC team, even if redshirting.
- Must be registered, enrolled, and attending class no later than four weeks after the first day of class. Second 8-week courses do not count toward eligibility and may be used only in addition to the 12 units you are enrolled in and attending at the start of the semester.
- If the sports season spans two semesters, and at ARC that includes men's and women's basketball, a student-athlete must be enrolled and attending 12 units fall and spring semesters.
ARC athletes can attend courses at other Los Rios colleges and count the coursework toward their unit requirements with no minimum units required here at ARC, except for students who need to establish residency
Second Season Continuing Eligibility
Once a student competes in any scheduled game, meet, or match, the student must complete and pass the following:
- Must successfully pass 6 units if full time. Can only use the regular academic term (not summer) to make up this requirement.
- Complete and pass 18 academic units.
- Complete and pass 24 overall units. May use summer classes for this requirement only.
- Maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) in the courses completed starting with the first competition in any sport.
- Residency: All student-athletes who compete at any other California community college have to establish residency with ARC by completing 12 units (8 unit maximum in the summer) before the semester of competition begins. Students who competed at other Los Rios Community colleges will also have to complete residency requirements.
- NOTE: Additional rules and exceptions may apply to your specific circumstances. See your Athletic Counselor, Coach, or Athletic Director.
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics

NAIA Eligibility Center
All student-athletes competing at an NAIA institution must register with the NAIA Eligibility Center to become eligible.

NAIA Transfer Requirements

National Collegiate Athletic Association

NCAA Eligibility Center
Determine your eligibility for Division I and Division II programs directly out of high school. This must be completed by all student athletes that compete at a Division I or II institution. NCAA Initial Eligibility (Quick Reference Guide)
Steps to register:
- Register at the NCAA Eligibility Center site.
- Send your high school transcripts with the HS Transcripts Request Form
- Send your SAT or ACT scores. Use code 9999 for the SAT or ACT
- Let your Athletic Counselor know when you have completed these steps, so your eligibility status and transfer requirements can be determined.
Note: All student-athletes who have not completed this process will be considered a non-qualifier for NCAA transfer purposes and your education plan will reflect this status.
