ARC Recognized by Tree Campus USA Program
April 2, 2019
American River College has been honored with 2018 Tree Campus USA recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. ARC is one of only three California community colleges as well as one of only 13 two- and four-year California colleges and universities to receive this recognition. This marks the third consecutive year ARC has been recognized, following initial recognition in 2016.
The recognition follows a lot of hard work by a team of staff, faculty, and students. The Tree Campus USA program recognizes college and university campuses that:
- Effectively manage their campus trees
- Develop connectivity with the community beyond campus borders to foster healthy, urban forests
- Strive to engage their student population utilizing service learning opportunities centered on campus, and community, forestry efforts
“American River College is honored to receive this recognition from the Tree Campus USA program,” said ARC President Thomas Greene. “This acknowledgement is a testimony to the great work being done by our college community. As part of our ongoing commitment to the values of sustainability, we will continue to work towards maintaining this recognition for the future.”
