Join the ARC Student Design Team!

American River College is thrilled to announce the development of its first-ever Student Design Team. We are looking for a diverse group of ARC students to help inform the future direction of the college, improve our student-facing programs, services, processes, tools, and/or communication. This is an exciting opportunity to elevate student voices and interests to improve the educational experience for all ARC students.

Qualifications

We are looking for students who are:

  • Excited to share their honest feedback to help improve different aspects of the college
  • Willing to give input both in writing and also verbally
  • Comfortable working on their own as well as in groups
  • Able to be flexible about when they work, with the understanding that the college will work around their class schedules and other commitments.

Job Details

This is a paid position at $14 per hour and averages 20 hours per week.

Team members will participate in a number of design-related activities, including:

  • Providing feedback on how to make our programs and services more accessible to students
  • Assessing how systems and processes can be made more intuitive for students
  • Analyzing policy and procedures
  • Exploring and testing new technology tools and/or equipment
  • Serving on committees and/or workgroups
  • Engaging other students in similar activities on campus

Time Commitment

We are looking for students to make a yearlong commitment to this team. We will identify and develop the inaugural team in spring 2021 in preparation for the yearlong assignment during the 2021-22 academic year.

Please write a brief Statement of Interest to share why you’re interested in this job. Here are some guidelines to help you write a successful Statement of Interest. Please answer the following questions in your statement:

  • Why you are interested in serving on the Student Design Team?
  • Have you ever been frustrated with a College process or form? Briefly describe the challenges and give a few ideas for how it could have been made easier for you.
  • Do you participate in any programs or services on campus, such as Umoja, Puente, or the Veterans Resource Center?
  • What is your pathway/major? What are a few of the skills you’ve learned in your classes that could help you do a good job as a Student Design Team member?

Selection Process

A diverse group of students will be selected to serve on the Student Design Team in an effort to represent the broader student voice. Students will submit a Statement of Interest, which will be reviewed by programs leads. Interviews will be conducted and selected students will be invited to join the team.

The deadline to apply for the team is April 16.
