ARC Presidential Transition

December 14, 2022

Melanie Dixon and Frank Kobayashi

Melanie Dixon, the President of American River College (ARC), will leave the college at the end of the Fall 2022 semester, after serving in the position since January 2021. Dixon was the eighth president in the school's history. Dr. Frank Kobayashi, the college's Vice President of Instruction, has been selected to serve as Interim President, effective December 17, 2022.

"As Vice President of Instruction at ARC, Frank has done an outstanding job helping to lead the college at a time of unprecedented uncertainty," said Los Rios Chancellor Brian King. "Frank is a skilled leader who is committed to student success and has excellent relationships at the college and around the district. He will serve in the interim role until a permanent successor to outgoing President Dixon is selected."

Frank has served as ARC's Vice President of Instruction since 2021. Prior to that he served as the Interim Vice President of Instruction, Associate Vice President of Workforce Development, and Dean of the Natomas Center.

King added that a national search for the next permanent President of ARC will take place in Spring 2023.

Dixon announced in November that she had decided to move back to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to her mother, daughter, and grandson.

"I thank Melanie for her incredible service to American River College," said King. "She leaves a powerful legacy for the college and our district, and her impact will be felt for many years to come."
