stem building

American River College's Diane Bryant STEM Innovation Center

To ensure that ARC's facilities are well positioned to provide the workforce to support our region's growth, ARC has embarked on a campaign to build a state-of-the-art Diane Bryant STEM Innovation Center to help train and create a skilled STEM workforce. The three-story, 57,000 square foot building will provide critically needed infrastructure, contemporary classrooms, and laboratory spaces, which are essential for 21st century teaching and learning.

Funding for construction of the building has already been secured. However, it is the technology and equipment that will go inside the new building that will make the real difference because it will allow students to gain hands-on experience using the same cutting-edge tools they will encounter at high-tech employers. This experiential learning will ensure that Sacramento's students have access to the highest quality, affordable and most up-to-date STEM education available. The completion of this project will create a hallmark STEM program in the region that cements its place as a first-choice institution.

Design elements will provide shared, flexible and movable space and labs for programs and disciplines that include Business & Computer Science, Mathematics, Astronomy, Physics and Engineering.

A Campaign to Invest in Knowledge and Build Sacramento's Future

The total cost of the new STEM building is $32.5 million. The vast majority of funding has been secured through bond financing earmarked for STEM modernization projects. But these dollars will not cover the costs of the critical program and learning components that will make our program state-of-the art. Therefore, we are fundraising for equipment and technology not ordinarily available to community college students - investments that will transform the STEM building into an ultramodern learning environment, on par with some of the best college and university STEM facilities in the state.

Groundbreaking began in fall 2018 on a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) building at American River College. The 57,000 sq. ft. three-story building will replace the Liberal Arts Wing that has existed at the college since the 1960s.

ARC has launched a major fundraising effort for STEM Innovation and 21st Century Science. This campaign has raised nearly 80% of the goal of  $2.5M in private support. Private funding will be used to enhance the construction with industry lighting, technology and lab equipment.
