BEAVERS RIDE FLETCHER'S COATTAILS TO WIN

American River College defeated rival Sierra College 2-1 in Rocklin on Thursday thanks to another great day by freshman Jason Fletcher (Rosemont).  Fletcher threw 7 innings in picking up the win and also drove in both runs with a 2x4 day at the plate.  Fletcher drove in SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) with a single to right in the 1st inning and drove in Riffice again with a 2 out single to center in the 3rd. The Beavers threatened several times, including a bases loaded, no out rally in the 6th but could not get any more runs.  Fletcher and sophomore reliever Zander Zeisler (Nevada Union) combined to allow just 6 Wolverine hits on the day.  Sierra had runners in scoring position in 6 of the 9 innings but could only muster one run thanks to the stout pitching and some great defensive plays by Riffice at short.  The Beavers and Wolverines meet in the rubber match at Beaver Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

BEAVERS DROP GAME 1 TO WOLVERINES

American River College dropped game one of the three game series to Sierra College 7-3 at Beaver Field on Tuesday.  Sierra got out to a big lead thanks to four unearned runs, which the Beavers could not recover from.  Down 7-0 in the 5th, A.R.C. did score twice thanks to an RBI triple by SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) and an RBI groundout by 2B Cameron Gordon (Rocklin).  The Beavers would inch closer on an RBI double by Riffice in the 7th, but could not close the gap despite having some runners on base the rest of the way.  A.R.C. travels to Sierra on Thursday, then hosts the Wolverines on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

BEAVERS LOSE THIRD STRAIGHT TO DVC

American River College lost their 3rd straight game to Diablo Valley College 15-4 on Monday at Steve Ward Field in Concord.  The Beavers bullpen and defense was shaky in allowing the Vikings to score 10 runs in innings 4-6.  The Beavers return home on Tuesday to face the Sierra College Wolverines at 2:30 p.m.

BEAVERS CRUSHED AT HOME IN MAKE-UP

American River College was manhandled by the defending Big 8 Conference champion Diablo Valley College Vikings 11-0 at home on Wednesday.  This marked the 9th time this season that the Beavers have given up double digit runs in a game.  Starter Sammy Vergara (Roseville) was touched up for 6 runs in 1 1/3 innings, after giving up a grand slam in the 2nd inning.  The Beavers managed only 4 hits, one a double by DH Jason Fletcher (Rosemont).

BEAVERS LOSE ANOTHER CLOSE ONE AT HOME

American River College fell to Cosumnes River College 1-0 at home on Monday in a make up game from March 31.  Starter Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) got the loss despite giving up just one run in 8 innings of work, a single run allowed in the 2nd inning.  The Beavers had their chances offensively, as they had at least one runner in scoring position in 7 of the 9 innings.  3B David Cooley (El Dorado) twice came to the plate with bases loaded and two outs but was unable to drive in a run.  The Beavers out-hit the Hawks 10-9 and had 15 runners reach base, including DH Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) who was 5x5 on the day.  This was the second time the Beavers have been shut out on the season, the other a 1-0 loss to Santa Rosa in 13 innings back on March 15.

BEAVERS DROP EXTRA INNING GAME AT SAC CITY

American River College lost another close one Saturday, falling 4-3 at Sac City College in 11 innings.  The Beavers trailed early as starter Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) struggled with command but kept the Panthers from scoring after giving up 2 in the first inning.  He allowed an unearned run in the 4th.  The Beavers scored in the 6th but caught a bad break when it appeared as if 3B David Cooley (El Dorado) was going to score from first on a double by LF Wyatt Moreland (Woodland) but the ball got caught in the field tarp forcing Cooley to stay at third where he was stranded.  A.R.C. scored twice in the 7th, one on a sac fly by SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) and one on a double by RF Andrew Lojewski (Woodland).  Both teams had opportunities to score late in the game but neither team could get a run across until the Panthers scored on a two out single to right off of Beaver closer Zander Zeisler (Nevada Union).

The Beavers have a four game week coming up with a make-up game vs. Cosumnes River on Monday at 3:00 p.m. followed by a three game series with defending Big 8 Conference champ Diablo Valley College.

BEAVERS FALL TO HOST SAC CITY 4-2

Once again the Beavers lost a close one as runs were hard to come by at Union Stadium on Tuesday.  LHP Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) battled some wildness, allowing 6 walks in 6 innings, but managed to allow just 4 runs, keeping the Beavers in the game.  The offense managed to score one in the first and one in the 9th, but couldn't do anything in between as the Beavers fell to their rivals.  The Panthers scored once in the first on a hit and three walks, then twice in the 3rd, thanks to two singles, a walk and a balk.  The Beavers threatened in the 9th as they loaded the bases with one out when 3B David Cooley (El Dorado) singled to make the score 4-2.  CF TJ Meleski (Ponderosa) struck out and pinch hitter Deric Quigley (Rosemont) grounded out to short to end the threat and the game.  The two teams meet again on Thursday, April 5 at Beaver Field at 2:30 p.m.

THURSDAY'S GAME POSTPONED TIL FRIDAY

The baseball game between A.R.C. and Cosumnes River College has been postponed and moved to Friday at Beaver Field.  The two teams will finish the game from Tuesday with CRC ahead 7-5 in the top of the 6th inning beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The regularly scheduled game with CRC as the home team will begin shortly afterward.

BEAVERS GET WIN BEHIND MORE GREAT PITCHING

American River College got another outstanding pitching performance Saturday, this time from Jason Fletcher (Rosemont), and the Beavers were able to hold off #9 ranked Modesto 3-2 in Modesto.  On a day where the rain was supposed to pour, the beavers got nice enough weather and just enough runs to defeat the Pirates.  Fletcher threw 7 innings, allowing one run which was unearned.  The Beavers could only manage one run through the first 8 innings, but in the 9th CF T.J. Meleski (Ponderosa) led off with a single to left.  He was moved up to 2nd by C Tyler Eppler (Bear Creek), then he scored on a base hit by LF Jay Standen (Woodcreek).   Standen later scored from 3rd on a 2 out base hit bunt by SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) to put the Beavers up 3-1.

The Beavers held on in the 9th as sophomore Zander Zeisler (Nevada Union) picked up his first win since 2009 by working the 8th and 9th.  M.J.C. did score in the 9th but Zeisler was very efficient in his 2 innings of work.

A.R.C. returns home this week for a three game series with Cosumnes River College, with all three games being played at Beaver Field, but the Hawks will be the home team on Thursday.

BEAVERS CANT HOLD LEAD, DROP 7th STRAIGHT

LHP Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) pitched really well for 8 innings on Thursday, giving up four hits, three of them in the 4th inning, but once again the Beavers bats could not score enough to get the win.  A.R.C. took a 3-1 lead into the 9th inning, but after Everingham walked the leadoff batter in the 9th the Beavers went to closer Nick Dermenjian (Bella Vista) who could not close it out, allowing 2 runs in the 9th and 3 in the 11th to drop the Beavers to 1-7 in Big 8 play.  A.R.C. took a 2-1 lead in the 4th on a 2 run double by 3B David Cooley (El Dorado).  They added a run in the 6th when Jay Standen (Woodcreek) doubled in Cooley who had reached on a fielder's choice and stole second.  The Beavers threatened several more times but could not score.

The Beavers travel to Modesto for the last of the three game series for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday.

BEAVERS CAN'T GET BATS GOING AGAINST SANTA ROSA

American River College dropped their 6th straight Big 8 Conference game on Wednesday, losing to 7th ranked Santa Rosa 5-2 at Beaver Field. Beaver pitchers combined to keep the Bear Cubs in check, with Tommy Dickinson (Rio Linda) and Zander Zeisler (Nevada Union) combining to throw 6 1/3 innings of relief, with Dickinson allowing two runs in the 5th inning. Starter Wes Vancil (Rosemont) could not make it out of the first, allowing two runs and leaving with the bases loaded before Daniel Synhorst (El Camino) got out of the jam. The Beavers managed just six hits off of the Bear Cubs, with RF jason Fletcher (Rosemont) getting two hits and 3B David Cooley (El Dorado) going 2x3 with a 2 run double in the 2nd inning.

The Beavers play Modesto J.C. on Thursday at home at 2:30 p.m.

BEAVERS CAN'T QUITE PULL OFF ROAD WIN

American River College was unable to pull off the victory at Modesto on Tuesday, as the fell to 6-12 on the season after a 3-2 loss. Starter Sammy Vergara (Roseville) threw a complete game allowing just 2 earned runs on 6 hits. The Beavers offense continues to struggle, getting just 2 runs on 8 hits and blowing several opportunities with runners in scoring position. CF Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) had 3 hits and an RBI and 2B Cameron Gordon (Rocklin) had a pair of hits, including a double.

The Beavers return to action at home on Wednesday, March 21 for a make-up game versus Santa Rosa JC at 2:30, then play Modesto at home on Thursday, March 22.

March 16, 2012

BEAVERS DROP PAIR IN SANTA ROSA

American River College lost both ends of a doubleheader in Santa Rosa on Thursday, though both games were very different.  The first game was close as the Beavers trailed 6-3 in the bottom of the 7th with two outs, but the bullpen could not keep it close as the Bear Cubs scored twice in the 7th and four times in the 8th to pull away for the 12-3 victory.  Santa Rosa had 18 hits off of five Beaver pitchers, including 11 off of starter Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) who worked 5 2/3 and left with the score 6-3. He did not walk a batter.  Freshman RF Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) supplied some power for the Beavers, hitting his first collegiate home run, a two run shot in the top of the 6th.

Game 2 was very different as the Beavers lost 1-0 in 13 innings behind nine innings of two hit, shut out ball from Jason Fletcher.  Neither team managed to get a runner to third base for the first 12 innings.  Freshman RHP Nick Dermenjian (Bella Vista) came on in relief and pitched a scoreless 10th, 11th, and 12th, but in the 13th with two outs and nobody on he hit two batters and then gave up a single to score the games only run, sending the Beavers home with a 1-4 record in Big 8 Conference play.

Since the make up from Tuesday's game was played at Santa Rosa, the Bear Cubs will travel to Beaver Field on Tuesday, April 24th so that both teams will still have a pair of home games.

BEAVERS CAN'T TAKE SERIES FROM DELTA

American River College lost an opportunity to take the three game series from defending state champion Delta College by losing 8-1 in Stockton on Saturday.  The Beavers had an opportunity in the 1st to jump out on top with the bases loaded and one out but only managed to score one on a wild pitch.  Delta answered with two in the bottom of the first off of Beavers starter Sammy Vergara (Roseville), who worked 4 2/3 innings and took the loss.  A.R.C. returns home on Tuesday, March 13 to face Santa Rosa J.C. to begin their three game series, with the game beginning at 2:30 p.m.

March 8, 2012

BEAVERS DOWNED AT HOME BY DELTA

American River College fell to 1-1 in Big 8 Conference play with a 6-2 loss at home to #6 ranked Delta College on Thursday. The game was scoreless until the 4th when the Mustangs scored twice on a single to right that got under Jay Standen's (Woodcreek) glove, allowing the runner from first to score, as well as the batter, who came all the way around to put Delta up 2-0. The Beavers answered back in the 6th when LF JR. Casas (Valley Christian) singled to score CF T.J. Meleski (Ponderosa) who had walked. Delta went up 3-1 in the 7th after scoring on a wild pitch. Starter Jason Fletcher (Rosemont), threw very well, going 7 innings and striking out 6 with no walks. The bullpen was unable to keep the Mustangs off the board though, as Delta scored three times in the 8th inning to put the game out of reach.

The teams will play the rubber match in Stockton on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m.

FORMER BEAVERS SWEEP LONE-STAR CONFERENCE HONORS

Former American River College pitchers Austin Palmer (Folsom) and Pete Perez (River City) were named Lone Star Conference co-pitchers of the week for their efforts last week. He threw 8 innings and struck out 10, allowing no runs and just four hits in Tarleton State's victory over Cameron University. Palmer struck out 5 and allowed just 3 hits in Abilene Christian's 6-1 victory over Tarleton State. Both pitchers were starters for the Beavers on last years' team.

BEAVERS OPEN BIG 8 PLAY WITH A WIN

American River College opened the 2012 Big 8 Conference season with a 5-4 win over defending state champ Delta College in Stockton on Tuesday.  The Beavers struggled offensively early as they did not record a hit until 2B Cameron Gordon (Rocklin) led off the top of the 6th with a single up the middle.  Two batters later RF Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) singled to center and advanced to second when the Delta CF could not come up with the hit cleanly.  With 2 out LF Wyatt Moreland (Woodland) singled to right to tie the game at two.  LHP Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) retired the first two batters of the game, then allowed three straight hits to give Delta a 2-0 lead.  Everingham then retired the next 12 straight batters before giving up a pair of runs in the 6th to give Delta a 4-2 lead.  The Beavers struck back in the 7th with three straight hits to tie the game but could not quite get the go-ahead run in.  With one out in the top of the 8th DH Tanner McMahon (Ponderosa) hit a fly ball to right which was dropped, allowing him to reach second.  With two outs 1B Cody Lommori (Douglas, Carson City) hit a line drive which the SS was unable to handle allowing pinch runner Ryan Winder-Fernandez (Folsom) to score.  Freshman Nick Dermenjian (Bella Vista) came on to work the 8th and 9th without allowing a run to pick up his second save of the year.  A.R.C. and Delta get right back after it on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Beaver Field.

BEAVERS WIN AT HOME IN EXTRA INNINGS

American River College used all of its 9 lives in defeating Mission College 6-5 in 11 innings on Saturday.  It was only the 2nd home win of the year for the Beavers, and it came with a walk off hit from RF Jason Fletcher (Rosemont).  A.R.C. was down to its last out in the 9th, trailing 5-4 when SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) walked and stole second.  Jason Fletcher then hit a ground ball to short but the throw came up a little short and got away from the first baseman, allowing Riffice to score.

Cameron Gordon (Rocklin) led off the 11th with a double down the right field line, his second double of the game.  Jake Riffice was hit by a pitch and both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  Fletcher then singled past a drawn in infield to give the Beavers the win.

A.R.C. finishes out the non-league schedule at home on Tuesday, February 28 against Solano College at 2:00 p.m.

BEAVERS ROUTED ON THE ROAD

It turned out to be a long strange trip for the Beavers on Thursday which started with the bus being an hour and ten minutes late picking the team up for Game 2 of the three game series with Mission College.  The team arrived at the field an hour before game time and seemed to be ready, scoring a pair of runs in the first and a pair in the 2nd on a triple by 3B David Cooley (El Dorado) who was thrown out at the plate trying for an inside the park home run.  Unfortunately, that would be all of the runs they would get before Mission scored 18 on the Beavers.  Starter Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) did not have good command, walking 5 in 3 1/3, while allowing 6 runs.  The Beavers issued 10 walks on the day.

Game 3 will be Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. as the team returns home for its first game at Beaver Field since February 14.

BEAVERS WIN ON THE ROAD AT MISSION

American River College rode another strong pitching performance by LHP Max Everingham (Oak Ridge) and some timely hitting to defeat Mission College 5-4 in Santa Clara on Tuesday. The Beavers also got some help from the Saints defense as the Beavers took a 4-2 lead in the 5th inning on an error by Mission's shortstop with 2 outs which allowed 2 runs to score. Everingham scattered 4 hits through 7 innings while striking out 7.  Freshman RHP Nick Dermenjian (Bella Vista) came on in relief and gave up 2 runs in the 8th to tie the score at 4, but the Beavers once again took advantage of a Mission error to lead off the inning, followed by a balk which sent C Jason O'Connor (Folsom) to second.  He advanced to third on a bunt single by SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay) and then scored the winning run on a fielders choice by RF Jason Fletcher (Rosemont).

The Beavers return to Mission College on Thursday, February 23 for Game 2 of the series at 2:00 p.m.

February 20, 2012

BEAVERS SPLIT IN SALINAS

American River College traveled to Salinas over the President's Day Weekend holiday to play Hartnell College on Friday and Saturday.  Friday's game did not go so well as starting pitcher Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) was roughed up for 8 runs, 5 earned, over 5 1/3 innings pitched.  He also gave up two home runs.  The Beavers responded on Saturday with a 7-2 victory led by an outstanding performance by RHP Sammy Vergara (Roseville), who went 7 1/3, allowing just four hits while striking out 7.  Freshman Nick Dermenjian (Bella Vista) picked up his first save of the season.  The Beavers were led offensively by a season high five doubles, two by C Tyler Eppler (Bear Creek), LF Wyatt Moreland (Woodland), 3B David Cooley (El Dorado) and RF Jason Fletcher.

The Beavers head right back out to the bay area on Tuesday, February 21 to face Mission College in Santa Clara at 2:00 p.m.  They go back to Mission again on Thursday before returning home on Saturday, February 25 to face the Saints to conclude the three game series.

BEAVERS LOSE TO YUBA, HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE YET

American River College fell to 1-4 at home this season as they lost to Yuba College 9-5 on Tuesday. The 49ers entered the game last in the state in ERA, yet held the Beavers who were 12th in the state in batting average to just 5 runs.  Yuba outhit the Beavers 12-9 despite Yuba being ranked 76th in batting average entering the game. Yuba's starter, Ivan Lamas did a good job of keeping the Beavers off balance and Yuba's defense did not commit an error.  Every time the Beavers got back within range of taking the lead the 49ers found a way to pull ahead and took home the victory.  A.R.C. goes on the road for the next four games, with two games this weekend in Salinas, at Hartnell College at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.

February 13, 2012

BEAVERS FALL SHORT IN SEASON SERIES WITH SHASTA

American River College couldn't come up with a big stop in another slugfest with Shasta College on Saturday. The Beavers fell to 2-3 on the season with a 13-10 loss to Shasta that ended with some controversy, similar to Friday's game with Feather River. Starting pitcher Jay Standen (Woodcreek) struggled in his debut, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in the first inning.  Freshman Daniel Synhorst (El Camino) came on in relief and did a fine job, allowing two runs over the next 4 1/3 innings. The Beavers had another strong offensive day, gathering 10 runs on 12 hits, led by a 3x3, 2 double performance by SS Jake Riffice (Granite Bay).  1B Cody Lommori (Douglas, Carson City) added 2 more RBI to his team leading total of 9. The Beavers rallied to tie the game at 10 with three runs in the bottom of the 8th, but the Knights came back with three in the top of the 9th.  A.R.C. once again rallied to make it close, loading the bases with one out when 2B Cameron Gordon (Rocklin) hit a ground ball to 3rd. The Knights got the force at 2nd, but Gordon was also called out to end the game as Jason Fletcher (Rosemont) was ruled to have interfered with the second baseman.

The Beavers are home on Tuesday, February 14 to play Yuba College beginning at 2:00 p.m.

February 10, 2012

Meleski (Ponderosa) to give the Beavers a 4-1 lead.  The score remained unchanged until the 8th when the Beavers scored 4 times, the big blow coming on a two run, bases loaded single by Lommori.  A.R.C. added 3 runs in the top of the 9th which included an RBI double from C Tyler Eppler (Bear Creek) who was 4x5 on the day. The Beavers return home Thursday to play host to Shasta College, who defeated A.R.C. 13-10 in the season opener on Saturday.

BEAVERS DROP 2012 OPENER TO SHASTA

American River College opened up the 2012 season exactly how they did not want to.  Freshman RHP Wes Vancil (Rosemont) got off to a shaky start, walking the first two batters he faced, allowing two runs in the first.  The Beavers bounced back to get the lead in the 2nd inning, scoring three times, thanks to an RBI single by 3B Tanner McMahon (Ponderosa), a bases loaded walk by 1B Cody Lommori (Douglas, Carson City) and a sac fly by 2B Cameron Gordon (Rocklin).  Shasta scored two more in the 3rd and 4 in the fourth to chase Vancil, who was also hurt by some shaky defense.  The Beavers made 6 errors on the day while Shasta made 7.  Offensively, several Beavers got out to fast starts as CF TJ Meleski (Ponderosa) was 5x5 with a pair of RBI, Cody Lommori picked up 4 RBI on the day, LF JR. Casas (Valley Christian) was 2x6 with a 2B, and DH Wyatt Moreland (Woodland) had 3 hits and an RBI.
