R/R 6’2” 190
John is back with Luke Gadow and Steve Crew as 3rd year members
of the squad. John is one of the pillars of the team. His work
ethic is outstanding and he has become a very solid pitcher for
the Beavers. He was the opening day starter last year versus
Solano. John played his high school ball at Bella Vista where he
was a big part of the two-time Capital Athletic League champion
and 2006 section runner-up Broncos. He was named All-League in
2006. He should see action as a starter this season. John got
the loss on opening day despite allowing just one earned run
over 7 innings pitched versus Solano College on Feb. 1. He
allowed just 5 hits and struck out 5. He picked up his first
collegiate victory versus San Jose City College on Feb. 16th,
scattering 7 hits over 5 1/3 innings as the Beavers won 11-8. He
also earned a win versus Santa Rosa J.C. by throwing 7 1/3
innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out four in
the Beavers 7-2 victory. John is a Criminal Justice major who
had a 3.0 GPA this fall. His parents are John and Jane
Constance.
Coach Jumelet says, “John’s workouts are really something to
see. He has turned himself into a very good pitcher and is a
great competitor. He will definitely be one of the guys that I
will miss being around when he moves on. He deserves everything
good that has happened to him and I will always feel that he is
one of the reasons that I got into coaching at this level. He
has developed through his own will and hard work and he is just
a fantastic person.”

Another of the three players that Coach Zepeda recruited out of
the Stockton area, Jess may be the most polished of the bunch.
He led the whole Sac-Joaquin section in RBI last year with 45 in
27 games played. He was also 4th in slugging % (.938), 13th in
batting average (.513) and was 10th in the section in strikeouts
as a pitcher with 96 in 64 innings pitched at Lincoln H.S. in
Stockton. All of this led to him being named to Stockton Player
of the Year and playing in the Stockton Senior All-Star game. He
should see time at 1B, DH and on the mound for the Beavers this
year. His parents are Jess and Regina Covarruvias.
Coach Jumelet says, “Jess is an extremely talented and gifted
player who may be the best pure hitter on the team. If we can
keep him healthy he may turn into a top of the rotation pitcher
for us as well. I would love to have his bat in the lineup on a
regular basis. I think he will get a lot of big hits for us this
season.” |
#10 Steve Crew
SO |

Steve is back for his 3rd year with the Beavers after
red-shirting in ’07 and seeing some time out of the bullpen last
year. He also had a start versus Modesto JC in a non-league
contest. He also threw two scoreless innings versus Chabot
College in a non-league contest. He struck out league MVP and
9th round draft choice Michael Gonzalez from Diablo Valley
College in a relief appearance. Steve played at Roseville High
School where he was a teammate of current Beavers Taylor Hoffman
and Chris Garcia. Steve is a History major. His parents are Doug
and Mary Ann Crew.
Coach Jumelet says, “We recruited Steve as much for his
toughness and demeanor on the mound as for his pitching ability.
He is a fine pitcher and is not afraid of anybody when he is on
the hill. He is a great teammate and one of the most respected
members of the pitching staff. He maintains a great attitude and
is almost like having another coach on the field. He should help
us out of the bullpen again this season.”

Kody Curtis FR
 |
INF
L/R 5’10” 170
Kody joins the Beavers as another in a long line of quality
players to come out of Mesa Verde High School in Citrus Heights.
Kody should provide the Beavers with some versatility in the
right side of the infield, as he can play 2B and may be the
starter at 1B. At Mesa Verde he was 7th in the Sac-Joaquin
section in RBI with 40 and 7th in batting average with a .533
average in 2008. He hit over .500 for three years for the
Mavericks. He also earned All-Pioneer Valley League in football
and was the team MVP. His parents are Robert Cherry and Katie
Scarlata-Cherry.
Coach Jumelet says, “A definite D-1 prospect, Kody has proven
to be a solid run producer, and that is exactly what we need in
the lineup, guys who can come through in the clutch. It is very
easy to notice his production with the bat but he is very solid
defensively and quietly works at his defense as hard as anybody.
He should be a very good player for us.” |
#34 Ryan Dettman
FR |
OF L/R 5’10” 165
Ryan is a very talented outfielder who may red-shirt this
season. He possesses one of the strongest arms on the team and
is one of the fastest players as well. If he plays this season
he could wind up as the starting center fielder. Ryan played for
former Beaver player and coach Jim Bennett at Del Campo H.S.
where he hit .460 and was named to the All-Capital Athletic
League where he finished with 20 stolen bases on the season. He
also had three home runs for the Cougars. He was named to the
Optimist All-Star game as well. His parents are Randy and Bev
Dettman.
Coach Jumelet says, “Ryan is going to be a fantastic player.
When he gets a little stronger he is really going to be a
threat. He can already drive the ball and his size works in his
favor. He will see a lot of fastballs and with a little more
power he can be dangerous. He is a good bunter and he can really
run. He is going to be fun to watch. He has an outstanding work
ethic too.” |
#44 Cachot Duncan
FR |
P R/R 6’5”
225
Cachot comes to A.R.C. along with Joe Whitehead and Anthony
Richmond as Woodland H.S. alums. Cachot may be one of the best
pro prospects the Beavers have. He is a big kid with a fastball
that can reach into the low 90’s. He is one of the few strikeout
pitchers the Beavers have which puts him in a spot to be the
Beavers closer this season. He has worked very hard in the
weight room to regain the form that had him as one of the top
prospects on the Colorado Rockies Scout team in 2008. He missed
much of the 2008 high school season due to injury but still
managed to record 17 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. His
parents are Dave and Gay Duncan.
Coach Jumelet says, “Cachot is a really funny kid with a very
bright future in baseball. He has really good stuff, a great
arm, a big body, and a work ethic and drive that not only makes
him better but also those around him. It is nice to see a kid
with that kind of determination do well and I think he will have
a fine year for us.” |

Nick Ewing FR |

Nick joins the Beavers this year after having been at Sierra
College last season. He is still awaiting word on whether he can
receive a medical redshirt year from last year which would make
him a freshman since he only had three at-bats at Sierra. Nick
was a three-sport star at Oakmont High School where he played on
the varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams for three
years. He was named Oakmont’s Athlete of the Year after his
senior year and played in the Optimist All-Star game. He was
also drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 44th round in
2007. His parents are Charlie and Karen Ewing.
Coach Jumelet says, “Nick is one of the most talented players
on the team. He may have the best arm on the team and is one of
the fastest players, as well. He can hit for power and steal
bases very well. If he can play this year he will be a huge
asset to the team.” |

Kevin Finklea FR |

Kevin comes to A.R.C. from Bear Creek High School where he was
teammates with Mychal Harris. Kevin plays right field and
possesses many of the qualities that have made so many former
Beavers successful. He has a great work ethic and is committed
to being the best he can be in the field, in the weight room and
in the classroom. While at Bear Creek Kevin was the Defensive
Player of the Year and the team MVP of the football team and
batted .370 with 18 stolen bases for the baseball team. He
played in Stockton’s Senior All-Star game. He is a Business
Management major. His parents are Clarence and Teri Finklea.
Coach Jumelet says, “We are very lucky to have such a great
group of freshmen this year and Kevin is leading the way. He has
a great work ethic and has only begun to tap into his baseball
potential. He really could be a very good player here for us and
he will be an even better member of society when all is said and
done. We are very fortunate to have him here.” |

Luke started 28 games for the Beavers last season, including 11
in Big 8 Conference play. He was the Beavers opening day
leadoff hitter and was very versatile, playing 2B, 3B, and SS
throughout the course of the season. Luke prepped at El Dorado
High School where he was the team MVP both his junior and senior
years. He was named All-Sierra Valley Conference in baseball and
football while at El Dorado. Luke was 2x4 with a double and 5
RBI vs. College of the Sequoias on Feb. 15th. He had another 2x4
day with a double and two stolen bases versus Sierra College on
March 25th. He is a business major. Luke’s parents are William
and Elena Gadow.
Coach Jumelet says, “We are a much better team when Luke is
playing well. He is probably the most talented player that we
have, he just needs to relax and let the game come to him and he
could be an All-American. He has the talent to be a really
special player. If he plays up to his potential he should be one
of the best players in the league and make our team that much

Chris hails from Roseville H.S. where he was teammates with
fellow Beavers Steve Crew and Taylor Hoffman. He spent last year
at Patten University in Oakland and was roommates with former
Beaver Andy Harris. He made 2nd team All-Sierra Foothill League
in baseball and basketball while at Roseville. This past summer
he was named to the California Collegiate League All-Star Game
at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi as a member of the Sacramento Cobras
Baseball team. He should see time as one of the main set-up guys
out of the bullpen and possibly earn time as one of the starting
pitchers this season. His parents are Thomas and Joann Garcia.
Coach Jumelet says, “Chris has the potential to be really
effective for us this year. I have seen him be really good in
short stints which makes me think that he will be a really good
set-up guy but I have also seen him be effective over 5 or 6
innings, so I think he could fit into a starters role as well.” |

Elias Garcia FR |
OF R/R 5’10” 165
Elias joins the team this year and has to rate as one of the
best raw talents to come through “the ARC” in quite some time.
He has very good power despite not having great size and may be
the fastest base runner on the team. His natural abilities could
see him hit anywhere in the lineup and he provides a lot of
energy to the team. Elias went to Natomas High School and played
for the Airport Little League team that was one game away from
the Little League World Series in 1999. His parents are Armando
Garcia and Delores Reid. Elias and his wife, Ebony and their
daughter, Jazmyn-Lynn live in Sacramento.
Coach Jumelet says, “You talk about a kid that you really
want to root for. Elias has a world of talent and the energy and
smile that really lights up the room. His energy is infectious
and his love for the game makes him really fun to watch. He has
the talent to be in the big leagues some day. He is going to
make it very difficult for teams to pitch to other guys with him
coming up or with him on base.” |

Josh returns for his sophomore year at A.R.C. as the only Casa
Roble High School alumnus on the team. Josh saw all of his time
out of the bullpen last season and he should be a big part of
the staff in the same capacity this season. Josh is very
reliable and has good stuff. Last year he ran into some bad luck
as many of his outings saw some shaky defensive play which led
to his stats not reflecting how well he pitched. He is a very
good competitor and one of the most respected members of the
staff. He is also one of the least vocal. Josh had a 3.25 g.p.a.
in the fall bringing his cumulative g.p.a. over a 3.0. Josh
threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit versus
Shasta College on Feb. 8th. He threw two scoreless innings with
a strikeout at Sac City on March 29th. His parents are Lee and
Cyndi Glaser.
Coach Jumelet says, “Josh is a great young man. He is one of
those guys who does not say very much, but when you get him
going you find out how smart and motivated he really is. He had
some tough breaks last year but we never hesitated to use him
and we won’t again this year. He can pitch and compete with the
best of them.”

Andrew picked up the win in the final Game 3 of the section
championships last season. He was an honorable mention
All-Sierra Valley Conference pitcher last season. He should see
action out of the bullpen this season. His brother Tyler is a
pitcher at the University of Nevada and his father Randy still
holds several pitching records at Santa Rosa J.C. His parents
are Randy and Tami Graham.
Coach Jumelet says, “Andrew is one of the hardest workers on
the staff and is always willing to learn new things in the
bullpen. We are very lucky because he is one of the first true
sidearm pitchers that we have had since Jack Johnson in 1993.
His deception will make him a very valuable part of our staff. I
think he can be very effective for us.” |
#12 Mychal Harris

OF R/R 5’10” 180
Mychal is a very talented freshman outfielder who has a very
bright future ahead of him. He can track down fly balls in
center as well as anybody and should really help bolster the
team defense by covering ground in the spacious Beaver Field
outfield. A teammate of Kevin Finklea’s at Bear Creek High
School in Stockton, Mychal led the Sac-Joaquin section in stolen
bases with 45 in 2008. Mychal is a history major who also made
the 1st team All-San Joaquin Athletic Association three years in
a row. He also played in the Stockton senior All-Star game last
year. His parents are Michael and Cruzita Harris. His father
Michael played football at Purdue University and in the NFL and
USFL.
Coach Jumelet says, “Mychal has a lot speed and very good
instincts. He is still learning to be a natural base stealer the
way RJ Gundolff was, and once he turns that corner he will be a
terror on the base paths. He should hit leadoff for us and
provide a spark at the top of the order that we haven’t had

which should really help him as he continues to move up the
ladder.” |

Seth comes to A. R.C. after playing his freshman year at
NorthEast Texas Junior College. He found his way to A.R.C. after
playing summer ball for the Reno Astros Baseball Club last
summer with former Beaver Chris Rinaudo. Seth is a smooth
fielding shortstop who should have a big impact on the club this
Spring. Seth prepped at Montgomery High School in Houston where
he hit .330 with 15 doubles and 30 stolen bases his senior year.
He was a 1st team All-District and All-County player both his
junior and senior years. After his senior year he was picked to
play in the Greater Houston Senior All-Star game. He is a big
fan of the Texas Longhorns. His parents are Clay and Terrie Hill
Coach Jumelet says, “Seth may be the best and smoothest
fielding shortstop we have had since Pete White back in 01 and
02. He is an excellent runner with great range defensively and
good base running instincts. I expect Seth to compete for the
starting job at shortstop and be rock solid defensively for us.
It is nice to know that when a ground ball is hit his way that
it is going to be an out. The pitchers appreciate it as well.”

Taylor has shown to be a very effective pitcher and may end up

the mound but has really shown a knack for getting people out.
Taylor was in the top 50 in the section in ERA with a 1.74 for
the season in 2008. He also received the Tiger Award for 2008 at
Roseville High School. His parents are Rick and Carolyn Hoffman.
Coach Jumelet says, “Taylor is a great kid and we are very
happy to have him here. He has shown a very good capacity for
learning and has worked hard in whatever we have had him do.
Being coachable is a great asset to have and it has and will
continue to pay off for him. It is nice that he has the ability

pitcher.” |
#25 Matt Hutchins

“Hutch” will be a major factor in the Beavers power game this
season. He is one of the few hitters on the team who is a
legitimate power threat each time he comes to bat. He should see
some time at 1B and DH, but he has also played 3B and LF. Matt
played at Ponderosa High School and was Teammates on the El
Dorado American Legion team with current Beavers Kyle Sanders
and Luke Gadow. He plans on majoring in Business Administration.
His parents are Hank and Mary Kaye Hutchins.
Coach Jumelet says, “Hutch has a lot of power and is a pretty
good hitter. He also has a cannon for an arm so he can pitch for
us if we really needed him to. Finding him a spot will be a
challenge but if he hits like we know that he can he will force
his way into being an every day player and a very good one at
that.” |

Mike comes to A.R.C. after having been one of the better high
school players that nobody knew about. Playing at Mira Loma High
School, Mike was a three year Varsity starter and 1st team
All-Capital Athletic League selection. He was also selected to
play in the Optimist All-Star Game after his senior year. He was
also named Honorable Mention All-City by the Sacramento Bee in
2008. An avid weight lifter, Mike will see time at first base
and behind the plate this year while most likely hitting in the
cleanup spot. His parents are Mike and Pam Keegan.
Coach Jumelet says, “Mike is a physical specimen much like
Doug Thennis was for us in 2005. He is a definite D-1 prospect
who seems to get better and better every day. He is a
perfectionist who has great leadership qualities and seems to
become more and more impressive all the time. He is continuing

he is a pretty decent runner as well.” |

selection in football and baseball. He also made the Optimist
All-Star game for baseball. His parents are Darren and Angela
Kelly.
Coach Jumelet says, “Jordan is an outstanding young man who
has made the team because he can really hit. Defensively he is
solid and not afraid to throw his body in front of the ball. He
should help us out quite a bit this year. He really is a great
kid.” |

Aaron Mascoe FR |

Aaron is probably the best defender that the Beavers have behind
the plate this season. He receives the ball well, has a very
good arm, and is very accurate with his throws. Offensively he
has shown a lot of improvement and worked very hard. He prepped
at El Camino High School where he won team defensive honors.
Aaron is a criminal justice major. His parents are Ron and Kathy
Mascoe.
Coach Jumelet says, “Aaron has been a very big surprise for
us. He is one of the best defensive catchers that we have had in
several years and really gives us plenty of options and depth at
a position that that can be hard to come by. His leadership has
also been a plus, especially for a freshman.” |
#16 Greg Meyer
FR |
SS L/R 5’8” 160
Greg has been a very pleasant surprise for Coach Jumelet and the
staff this year. Greg is a true walk-on, he was un-recruited out
of Christian Brothers High School but has performed well enough
to be the opening day starting shortstop for the Beavers. He was
the defensive player of the year at CBS. He is a very good
bunter and has decent speed which should see him hit near the
top of the order, most likely in the # 2 spot. He is a fire
technology major and his parents are Steve and Barbara Meyer.
Coach Jumelet says, “Greg has been a very nice surprise. He
came out swinging right from the start and has made a big
impression on the coaching staff with his aggressive approach to
the game. He can bunt, run, and do a lot of the little things,
especially from the left side of the plate. He will be a great
asset to the team for the next two years.” |
#17 Travis Meza

Travis comes to play for the Beavers after his brother Trevor
played CF for the Beavers last season. Trevor was a standout
pitcher and hitter for former Beaver player and coach Mike
Torres at Foothill H.S. the past four years. Travis was a State
Meet Wrestler while at Foothill. In 2008 he had a 2.19 ERA which
was 3rd best in the Capital Valley Conference. He should see
some quality innings out of the bullpen for the Beavers this
year. He played in the Optimist All-Star game last summer. His
parents are Leo and Andrea Meza.
Coach Jumelet says, “Travis is really a tough kid with a very
good understanding of how to pitch. He knows how to change
speeds and when he hits his spots he can be a very effective
lefty at the college level. The toughness he learned from Coach
Torres and from wrestling will really pay off for him and he has
some leadership qualities that will make him a very competitive
pitcher here for the next two years.” |

played basketball and baseball and was named All-Sierra Foothill
League his senior year as a shortstop for the Tigers baseball
team. While at Roseville he was teammates with current Beavers
Steve Crew, Chris Garcia, and Taylor Hoffman. His parents are
Dan and Janet Murphy.
Coach Jumelet says, “Murph reminds me a lot of myself as a
player. He is not the flashiest guy but anywhere you put him he
gets the job done and does it well. I trust him anywhere on the
field. His hitting has come around and he has a chance to be our

gets along with everybody and is always ready to go.” |
#20 Pete Perez
FR |

Pete will be one of the top starters for the Beavers pitching
staff this season. He was recruited by several D-1 schools out
of River City High School where he was 1st team All-Capital
Valley Conference and All-City in 2008. Pete was 4th in the
section in strikeouts with 116 in 76 innings pitched and had a
1.65 ERA for the Raiders. He also pitched in the Optimist
All-Star game. He has one of the best fastballs on the team and
a very good breaking ball which should see him get plenty of
strikeouts for the staff this season. His parents are Pete and
Renee Perez.
Coach Jumelet says, “Another probable D-1 recruit, Pete has
the potential to pitch professionally. The best thing is he has
a ton of confidence which is something that is hard to teach
young guys coming in. He should be our #1 or 2 starter and there
is no reason why he can’t become an All-Big-8 Conference
pitcher.” |
#22 Anthony Richmond FR |

Anthony is another very talented athlete who has a ton of speed
and strength and should make an immediate impact for the Beavers
this season. He is also one of the strongest players on the team
despite his size. He was a teammate of current Beavers Joe
Whitehead and Cachot Duncan at Woodland H.S. where he played for
Javy Valdivia and former Beaver Shant Hagopian. Anthony hit
cleanup for the Wolves last season despite being their fastest
player. He was the MVP of the football team as a running back
and was All-Tri-County League in baseball. He will most likely
start the season as the Beavers starting second baseman. His
parents are Darnell and Christina Sandoval.
Coach Jumelet says, “Anthony does so many things well that it
is going to be impossible to get him off the field. He can hit,
bunt, really run, steal bases and he is a tough, tough defensive
player. He has a lot of confidence and he should team with Joe
Whitehead to keep that Woodland flair to our infield. He should
easily be a Division 1 prospect next year.” |
#40 Kevin Rowell

Kevin is the first player the Beavers have had from Winters in a
long, long time. At Winters High School he earned the Senior
Scholar Award and was the Butte View League MVP. He also
participated in the Optimist All-Star game. The Sacramento Bee
named him honorable mention All-Metro. He should be a key
component to the Beavers bullpen this season. He has good
control and his delivery is deceptive. Kevin had a 3.6 GPA in
the Fall at A.R.C. He also likes to hunt and fish. His parents
are Ken and Jolie Rowell.
Coach Jumelet says, “Kevin is a really big surprise for us.
We didn’t know if he would show up here or stay closer to home
but fortunately for us he is here. He is going to be really
effective for us and he is an outstanding teammate. He is really
mature and another one of those guys who is an eager learner who

Kyle returns for his second season with the Beavers in a battle

played his high school ball at Ponderosa High School with
current Beavers Taylor Wilkinson, Andrew Graham, and Matt
Hutchins. He also played for the El Dorado American Legion team
with Luke Gadow. Kyle was 2 x4 versus Shasta College on Feb. 8th
last season. He went 1x3 with an RBI versus the College of
Sequoias on Feb. 15th. Kyle was 2x2 on the year in stolen base
attempts. Kyle had over a 3.2 g.p.a. this past fall and has a
cumulative g.p.a. over a 3.0. His parents are Mark and Denise
Sanders.
Coach Jumelet says, “Kyle is a great kid who is really
beginning to develop into a frontline catcher. Defensively he
has a very strong arm and he handles the pitching staff very
well. He did not get a lot of playing time in high school so he

innings allowing just one run vs. Diablo Valley College on April
3rd. He followed that start with his best outing of the year,
throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just 6 hits and
striking out a season high 8 batters versus Modesto J.C. on
April 10th. Luke is a communications major. His parents are Sam
and Shelley Vaughn.
Coach Jumelet says, “Luke is definitely an entertainer. When
he is not pitching he is one of the funniest guys on the team,
always trying to keep things loose and get a laugh. When he is
on the mound he is all business and one of the best competitors
on the team. He has a Division 1 curveball and a good fastball.
I have a lot of faith in knowing that we are going to get a good
performance from him every time out. We love having his energy
and enthusiasm on the field every day.”

#15 Joe Whitehead
FR |
3B R/R 6’1” 190
Joe continues the strong tradition of Woodland High School
players coming to A.R.C. to play for the Beavers. Joe should be
the starting 3B this season as well as hit in the middle of the
lineup. Joe was a 1st team All-Tri-County League player as both
a third baseman and a pitcher for the Wolves. He will be one of
the players that the team is counting on to provide some power
and run support to the lineup. His parents are Eric Whitehead
and Lisa Borchard.
Coach Jumelet says, “Joe is a pretty good pro prospect. He
has the tools in that he has power and a very nice, compact
swing. He is not intimidated by anyone or any situation and he
brings a lot of energy to the defense over at third base. We
will really need him to have a big season for us and he should
become a really good player.” |
#18 Taylor Wilkinson FR |
2B/OF
R/R 5’8” 170
Another one of the Beavers talented speed players, Taylor helped
lead the Ponderosa Bruins to their first section title ever last
May. Taylor is the first Beaver to play both football and
baseball at A.R.C. in the same year since Eric Mauldin in 1991
and the first two sport baseball player since Eric Mattison
played soccer and baseball for the Beavers in 2004. He was a 1st
team All-Sierra Valley Conference performer in football and
baseball and was named 1st team All-City by the Sacramento Bee
in baseball in 2008. He led Ponderosa with 25 stolen bases which
was good for 13th in the section. For A.R.C. Taylor caught a
touchdown pass on the last play of the first half versus
Monterey Peninsula College on October 4th. He is a Business
major. Taylor’s father Pete played baseball at the University of
Oregon. His parents are Pete and Cindy Wilkinson.
Coach Jumelet says, “Athletes like Taylor do not come along
very often. He was one of most highly recruited athletes in the
area last year and he has proven to be every bit as talented as
we thought he would be. He can really fly on the bases and his
high school coach David White did a great job of teaching him
how to be a base stealer. I think that he will have a fine
career both here and after he leaves A.R.C.” |
#26 Nick Young

R/R 6’6” 230
Nick returns to Northern California this year after spending his
freshman year at U.C. San Diego last year. Nick played his high
school ball at Granite Bay High School and pitched for current
Beavers pitching coach Tony Vargas. He also was a teammate of
current Beaver Jameel Ziadeh. Nick was a 1st team All-Metro
League selection at Granite Bay and was a Puma Pre-Season
All-American heading into his senior year. He was also an
honorable mention selection as a basketball player at Granite
Bay. He should see time on the mound for the Beavers this year
once he is healthy. He is a Business major. His parents are Nick
and Claire Young.
Coach Jumelet says, “Nick may be the X-factor for us this year.
He has had some arm trouble, but when he gets healthy he may
step into the rotation and be a dominant guy for us. The hardest
part for him will be overcoming the mental hurdles of throwing
after an injury, but he has worked really hard on and off the
field, and once his arm is healthy he will be ready to go. I am
excited to see him at full strength.”

#13 Zander Zeisler
FR |
P R/R
6’1” 190
Zander is the first player to don the Beaver uniform from Nevada
Union H.S. in at least 10 years. He hit .415 in his junior year
for the Miners and was an honorable mention All-Sierra Foothill
League choice his junior year. He should see a lot of time on
the mound for the Beavers this Spring and is a leading candidate
for the closer role. He may also see some starts this year on
the mound. He also played in the Optimist All-Star game.
Zander’s parents are Dan and Nancy Zeisler.
Coach Jumelet says “Zander has kind of flown under the radar
because he is a pretty quiet kid. He really showed people what
he is capable of in the Beaver World Series where he was flat
out dominant on the mound. He can fill any role for us, starter,
set-up guy or closer and he is one of the pitchers who I think
will be a huge key to our success this season.” |
#42 Jameel
Ziadeh SO |
OF
R/R 6’3” 210
Jameel returns as the Beavers top returning hitter from a year
ago. He is also an outstanding defensive outfielder, as he
possesses a cannon in right field and handles the sun and the
wind in Beaver Field’s notoriously tough sun field. Jameel
attended Granite Bay High School where he was teammates with
current Beaver Nick Young. At Granite Bay Jameel was a two-time
All-Metro League selection and set the Grizzlies stolen base
record. Jameel attended Biola University in Southern California
for his first three semesters of college, then joined the
Beavers last January. Jameel finished the fall semester with a
3.68 g.p.a.. to give him a cumulative g.p.a. of over a 3.7.
Jameel had a 3 x4 game with an RBI versus Modesto on Feb. 28th.
He had a season high 3 hits plus a double and an RBI versus
Chabot College on March 19th. He had another good day versus
Modesto J.C. on April 11th where he was 2 x4 with 2 RBI. He is a
huge Chicago Cubs fan. His parents are Khalil and Melodie Ziadeh.
Coach Jumelet says, “Jameel is another one of the outstanding
right fielders that we have been lucky to have over the years.
It is so tough out there with the sun and when the wind blows
and he really covers a lot of ground. He makes right field seem
small some times with how much ground he covers. He is also a
very mature guy and a lot of fun to be around. He hit over .300
last year and I know he can do better and hit for more power
this year.”
