Consider the concept of race.  Debate both sides of the issue of whether the concept of race should be abolished.  Explain why some people believe the concept is useless and why others believe it is useful.  Evaluate the issues and support your position.

This assignment is too vague. A statement about researching the viewpoints of scholars or experts in the field  would increase student success as well as lead to a deepening of their understanding of the issue.  Providing additional information on how to evaluate the issues, how to support a position, how to define race may also be helpful.

Additionally, this assigns the same topic to the whole class.  There will be a big rush on sources dealing with this topic.  Consequently, some students will not be able to find the sources necessary for the assignment.
