How will the program benefit me?
-
This depends on your background and goals. It is possible to earn an Associate
of Arts degree in Legal Assisting (see Requirements
for Degree). If you're interested in concentrated study directly related
to your workbut you don't need or want a full degreethe
program can:
-
add breadth and depth to your existing knowledge and skills
-
develop skills for a career change
-
prepare for a more responsible position in your current occupation
-
prove your commitment to job-related education through completion of a
planned course of study
-
How long does it take to complete the program?
-
It depends on you. The more courses you are able to take per semester,
the sooner you will complete the program. If you want to complete an A.A.
degree in four semesters, you will need to average 15 units per semester.
-
May I apply courses from another college to a degree?
-
You may be able to subsitute some courses from an accredited institution
for program courses, with the approval of the program coordinator, if the
course is comparable and you earned a grade of C or better. The Program
Coordinator can give you more information about substitutions.
-
May I transfer units to a four-year program?
-
Your Legal Assisting A.A. degree is fully transferable. The 60 units of
college coursework required for the A.A. mean that you will have the status
of Junior upon transfer to most four-year institutions. An academic
counselor can help you chose appropriate General Education courses for
the college you intend to transfer to.
-
-
-
Transferability of any of the Legal Assisting courses into a Bachelor's
degree program will be determined by the college you transfer to.
You should consult with a counselor at the four-year college to determine
your exact Bachelor's program plan.
-
Is it possible to audit program classes?
-
American River College does not permit auditing. Auditing is defined as
attending a course without responsibility for completing assignments and
without receiving a grade or credit.
-
Do I have to be in the program to take program classes?
-
No. Every course is open to you if you have been admitted to the college
and meet course requirements (prerequisites or corequisites).
