Lady Beavers 2014 Nor. Cal Runner Up

Following up after winning their Big 8 Conference Championships last week, three lady Beavers achieved All Northern California Honors at the Community College Cross Country Championships held at Crystal Springs in San Mateo on Nov. 8th, 2014.

    The beavers Most Valuable Runner, Jenica Dodge placed 2nd overall in 18:06, followed by Laura Cox (19:14) for 10th and Jocelyn Stillwell (19:18) for 11th.  “Top 14 finishes earn this honor, and it was exciting to see three of our local Beavers in the mix today”, says Coach Powless.

     The team finished 2nd overall and qualified onto their State Meet Championships to be held in Fresno  on Nov. 22nd.

     The next lady Beaver, and team captain, was Jocelyn Schmidt who finished in 20:29, followed by Ashlyn Hardin (20:29), Mayra villa (21:50) and Maria Rojo (23:02).

The Beavers had their best team performance with three ladies hitting their best marks of the season.

ARC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Sweep Big 8 Titles

Continuing to improve, the Lady Beavers Swept their Big 8 Conference Titles for both the individual champion, Freshman Jenica Dodge, and the Women’s Team Title.  To top it off, the ARC men swept the two titles as well dominating their prospective fields for their wins at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.

Every lady beaver improved by an average of more than a minute from having raced the same course just 7 weeks earlier.  Dodge led by 28 seconds over 2nd place finishing the 5K course in 18:12.  Laura Cox finished fifth in 19:15 followed by Jocelyn Stillwell's 6th in 19:21.  All three ladies made All Conference Honors.

ARC's team captain, Jocelyn Schmidt finished one spot behind all conference with her 15th in 20:13.  Fifth for the lady beavers was Myra Villa (20:39) followed by Ashlyn Hardin (20:51) and Cheyenne Drury (21:01).  Maria Rojo (21:57), Autumn Edgar (22:15) and Sydney Simmen (22:38).

Women's Cross Country

ARC Ladies Land another 2nd Place

Crystal Springs Invitational in San Mateo

Under good, yet windy conditions, the ARC women’s Cross Country Team earned second place with nearly all the community colleges from Northern California.  Just behind Hartnell, they finished ahead of Modesto, Butte, Sequoias, and Delta.

Jenica Dodge led her squad while celebrating her 18th birthday by placing 2nd overall in 18:26.  She was followed by teammates Laura Cox (20:09), Jocelyn Stillwell (20:26), Cheyenne Drury (20:35), Ashlyn Hardin (20:37), Jocelyn Schmidt (20:40) and most improved-Sydney Simmen (22:41) followed by Maria Rojo (22:57) and Autumn Edgar (23:22).

Seven ladies hit seasonal bests while the team improved their statistics with a combined team time of 1:40:15. That’s an average of 20:03 per runner.

Lady Beavers Finish Second again at the Lou Vasquez Invite In Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

With the addition of 2 new beavers, the lady beavers had 8 finishers in the Lou Vasquez Invite on Sept. 18th.   They finished a respectable 2nd, behind Hartnell, jumping ahead of Sequoias, Delta and Butte (who were previously ranked ahead of them). 

No surprise, the squad was led by their dominate freshman, Jenica Dodge, who completed the 5K course in 18:54.  Dodge (pictured above) was second despite the wrong turn near the finish at the polo field. 

Laura Cox was the second Beaver finisher in 19th overall with her 20:36.  Jocelyn Stillwell was 2 seconds back for 20th place followed by Freshman Cheyenne Drury (Former El Camino HS).  Drury, a former softball standout debuted in her first ever Cross-Country Race finishing 24th in 20:47. 

Rounding out the top five Beavers was Ashlyn Hardin (former Del Campo HS) freshman, also completed her first collegiate cross-country competition finishing 29th in 21:04.

Other ARC finishers included Jocelyn Schmidt, 30th in 21:06, Maria Rojo in 49th at 22:42, Sydney Simmen in 54th at 23:04 and Autumn Edgar in 60th at 24:00.

Coach Powless adds, “the ladies cut a minute off their combined time and brought their 1-5 spread/gap down to just over 2 min, so we are definitely moving in the right direction.  It’s going to be a competitive and exciting season now”.

ARC Women’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Big 8 Preview Meet at Granite Regional Park

Freshman Cross Country Athlete, Jenica Dodge (Former Whitney HS) once again led the lady beavers by winning the Big 8 Preview Meet at Granite Regional Park on Sept. 13th.  After finishing 2nd overall in the Fresno Invitational last week (with her 18:43), she posted the same time again at the Panther Invitational with a 45 second gap  over the next place finisher.

Freshman Laura Cox (former Sheldon HS) was the next beaver finisher in 13th overall with 20:31 followed by freshman Jocelyn Stillwell (Dixon HS) in 17th at 21:05.   ARC sophomore Jocelyn Schmidt (Bella Vista HS) was 19th in 21:08, followed by Freshman Mayra Villa (Piner HS) in 22nd with her 21:27.

Rounding out the top seven for the beavers included Freshman Autumn Edgar (Bella Vista HS) 26th in 22:42 and Freshman Maria Rojo (King City HS) 27th in 22:50.

In addition, Freshman Sydney Simmen (Elk Grove HS) finished 32ndin 23:25.

“It was a better team performance for us than last week in Fresno, but we are still without our complete squad.  We are looking forward to next week In San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park at the Lou Vasquez Invitational for much better team result”, says Coach Powless.
