BEAVERS PLACE 3RD AT BIG 8 CHAMPIONSHIPS
The men’s swim team finished third in the highly competitive Big 8 Swimming Championships in Pleasant Hill this past weekend. Along the way the team broke the 400 medley relay record set in 2009, with a time of 3:30.23. The relay team of Stephen Imbach, Jake Lear, Nathaniel Carder, and Scott Stirling was second to Diablo Valley College in that event as well as the 800 free relay and 200 medley relay.
Freshman Nathaniel Carder was high point man for ARC taking second place in the 500 free and 200 fly, and third place behind teammate Scott Stirling in the 200 free. Sophomore breaststroker Jake Lear swam well finishing second in the 100 breast and fourth in the 200 breast. The unshaved and lightly rested sophomore also led all five relay teams. Backstroke specialist Bob Weatherhead and backstroke/free sprinter Stephen Imbach reached the finals in their events as well.
The team will compete at the State Swimming and Diving Championships at East LA College this week. Coach Eric Black is optimistic about how his team will perform. "I am excited to compete this weekend. We qualified all five relays, two divers, and seven swimmers. We have a couple of guys that are unshaved and the team swam last weekend in mid-taper. I believe we have a lot of speed left in us, and I like how we have looked in practice the past few days". The ARC qualifiers include sophomores Lear, Stirling, Weatherhead, and Imbach, who will be accompanied by freshmen Carder, Jackson Peyton, Steve Barbich, and Nathan Ramos. Also qualifying on the 1M and 3M boards are freshmen Zack Yokoyama and James Kent.
