Winning in Life

Winning is always important, but always within the context of considerations such as discipline, academics, respect for opponents, officials, etc. As educators, coaches must strive to keep winning in perspective. It (winning) should never be encouraged at the cost of sportsmanship, discipline, integrity, and the respect of opponents and coaches. The players need to be educated as to the difference of being beaten, but never losing! Teams may be defeated in an athletic contest, but neither the team nor the individuals will ever be associated with being losers!! - Jerry Haflich
