ARC Mission Statement and Athletic Philosophy

The athletics program is an integral component of the Physical Education curriculum; we embrace the educational mission of American River College. The charge of the athletics program is to provide athletically oriented students with opportunities to enhance their collegiate education through their pursuit of excellence by participation in competitive collegiate sport.

We are committed to meeting the challenges of a multi-cultural student-athlete population. Strengthened by diversity, yet based on principles of equitable treatment of all participants, athletics is student-athlete focused. To promote student access and success we provide our student-athletes with comprehensive support services to enhance their athletic and academic processes both while at ARC and in preparation for their continued education and participation beyond our college.

Our athletic preparation and competitions are based on current principles of sport skill development, fitness training, sport psychology and fair competition. Athletic programs are planned to emphasize principles of good sportsmanship, social consciousness, leadership, cooperation, and individual achievement. Always, the integrity of the student-athlete and respect for both the competitors and the sport are paramount.

The athletics program promotes academic progress as desired for the student body in general. Student-athletes are required to maintain satisfactory advancement towards their educational goals. Athletic program attention to academics is designed to support and enhance student-athletes access and success in their academic pursuits.
